Cat Power - 'Ruin'

Cat Power, aka Chan Marshall has released her new single "Ruin" off her album Sun, and must say I was pleasanly surprised.

"Ruin" is a bit more uptempo than what many Cat Power fans are used to. Chan combining her soulful and sultry voice with her minimal guitar and piano playing has built a sound almost all her own. A 50's swooner meets whiskey and cigarettes. This is very apparent in her critically acclaimed (and one of my all time favorite) album The Greatest.

Still using layered vocals on the track, theres a strong latin influence that is used to create a sound that makes you maneuver your body in a way that is very unfamiliar when listening to Cat Power. Its...dare I say it? Dancey (not a word)?

One can only deduce that Chan is in a difference mind frame now. Not a stranger to the depressive, Marshal was well known for her erratic live music performance. She later contributed to heavy alcohol use and mental issues. All stemming from her tumultuous relationship with former runway model Daniel.

Even the beautiful are tortured.

It feels as though she has traded in her wonderfully emotional and minimalistic sounds in for a multi instrumental piece that oddly enough still sounds like it could be found on any of her back catalog.

Sun comes out September 4. Can't wait.

Kate is Cruisin on!

See what I did there? I used Tom's last name and I made it a verb. Pretty brilliant if you ask me.

It looks like Katie Holmes is getting tired of plowing Tommy in the arse with the strap on and has decided to move on. Which means, she back on the market.  More likely to be seen in the "damaged canned good" section rather than high priced imported section - she's seen some better days. Im not saying she's got wear and tear on her.  Im saying she's probably seen and done some shit that would make Joanna Angel blush. Im talking some freaky MMMMMonMMMM shit. Shit that would make even the freaky (like moi) cringe and consider a life of purity.

I have nothing to back this up. Im basing all of this solely on the fact that anyone that takes care of them selves that much, probably made a deal with the devil. He probably has to do some sadistic shit to keep up his end of the  bargain. Like take on 3 dudes at once while Katie pours goats blood while all 3 are inside up him. I dont know....Im going off the dome here.

Anyways....Katie Holmes is free of the kinky/freaky shit that Tommy has subjected her to the last 7 years and Im happy for her.

Hey Katie if you're reading this - come over and watch dogs eat peanut butter out of my ass. Im sure it still won't hold a candle to what you seen. Sorry girl.

New Leaf

Been awhile... I have no excuse, really. I could say I took the year off and sold all my belongings to live a life of simple means in Singapore to help families build houses made of noodles. Wouldn't bee true.

True is...Im super lazy. I did nothing of substance the last year. Worked the same job, drank the same beer and hung out with the same people. Not a bad thing of course. But when you hate the mundane and repetitive aspects of my life, like I do. You would think I would have done something different....

I'm turning over a new leaf. I have set the goal of posting once a day. Wether it be music related or just some funny (or not) anecdote I have, I will post it and you will read it. Oh yes...you will read it.

Mayonnaise Chronicles

Are we honestly to believe that Zooey Deschanel could have ANY problem get ANY guy with a pulse?

The people over at FOX want you to think so.

I guess in an alternate universe, and with a stretch of the imagination, I can maybe see her having trouble not getting enough dick. Like she's an alien from a distant planet that lives off of spunk and her mission is to be sent to Earth to collect enough "nut mayonnaise" for her whole planet to live off of. We can call it "the Mayonnaise Chronicles"

A recycled idea of taking a beautiful girl, put some glasses on her and "ttaaddaa" she's unattractive.

C'mon Fox...if you really want to have a believable coming of age sitcom of an awkward (unattractive) woman moving to the big city and chronicle her shenanigans, maybe see if Camryn Manheim is available.

This is shit.

Arcade Fire Meets Spamalot

What do Monty Python, Bruce Willis and Arcade Fire have in common? Well, they have all worked with the great and eccentric film maker, Terry Gilliam. Gilliam, who's works include: 12 Monkys, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Brazil, has signed on to direct the Arcade Fire's live streaming show on August 5th, in New York. Its all part of a series called "unstaged" sponsored by American Express and Vevo.

Here's hoping he's got some great and corky visuals up his sleeve.
